Gambier Island is a rugged, boat-access-only gulf island, in the center of Howe Sound, BC. It's an island made of thick white-grey granite, underneath a soft spongy soil home to grand maples, doug firs, cedars, hemlock, and of course - the local beauty - arbutus.
The site is on a particularly unique rock outcrop, connected to a sometimes island, or a little island only when the tide is high.
This siting made for some serious consideration and effort to add the new foundations and deck for the addition to the existing cabin.

As my very first design commission, this deck and poolside lounge was made to replace a rickety deck and lack of storage.
The storage unit also provides lighting, cover, and a bar stand for a real pool party.

A new deck and poolhouse to provide a sweet spot for spending the afternoon. The clients requested a cover for their barbecue, which works as a stand-up bar as well as storage for their pool machinery and supplies.
